Wanted: Diverse East Charlotte Residents for Education Community Circles

Introductory Informational Meeting with Carrie Gibson from The Lee Institute
on Education Community Circles

September 3, 2009

5:30 to 6:00 PM

Hickory Grove Recreational Center, prior to Candidates Forum

A generous opportunity is being offered by The Lee Institute for us to collectively bring a voice to bring attention to what is needed to help Achievement Zone students to get ready for college and work by bringing community circles together.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and The Lee Institute is organizing Community Circles to support education in CMS Achievement Zone high schools. These community circles have taken place throughout the city except East Charlotte. Such community circles might be of value to East Charlotte residents and to the Charlotte East Community Partners Education Committee as a means of developing a collective voice and formulating our goals, missions and advocacy programs.

Each Community Circle will follow a process designed and guided by The Lee Institute. The goal is to make sure that many different voices and perspectives are heard and can be brought together to support student achievement.

I am willing to offer my office as meeting space for the East Charlotte Community Circles. These circles however can take place at any location in East Charlotte.

For more information or to sign up as a participant call Queen Thompson at 704 563-7360 or 704 568-1228.
