(July 17, 2007)—Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan’s “Journey for Humanity” march was in Charlotte, N.C. Tuesday, just a week after she announced in Crawford that she will challenge US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2008 unless Pelosi moves to oust the president by July 23.
Sheehan and other anti-war protesters planned one rally at the office of Rep. Mel Watts, D-North Carolina.
He was in Washington, but a member of his staff met with the group, which is calling for the impeachment of both the president and Vice President Dick Cheney.
The protesters are bound for Washington, D.C., where they plan to arrive on Monday, which is the deadline Sheehan set for Pelosi to introduce articles of impeachment.
Pelosi’s spokesman earlier said the Speaker’s focus is on ending the war in Iraq.
Brendan Daly said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that Pelosi believes the best way to support troops in Iraq is to bring them home safely and soon.
